ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday told the authorities to provide best cabin crew and catering services to the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to achieve high service standards.
The prime minister chaired a meeting on the PIA where he was briefed about the affairs of the airline, especially those relating to the human resources of the airline.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Aviation Secretary Irfan Elahi and other official were also present at the meeting.
The meeting was informed that the domestic market share of the PIA increased from 47 percent to 58 percent in March this year compared to the corresponding period last year, while the international market share of the airline increased from 23 percent to 27 percent compared to the last year.
The prime minister was informed that average daily departures increased from 94 flights in March 2015 to 121 flights in March 2016. For Umrah, 71 extra sections were set up in March 2016 compared 27 such centres last year. He was informed that the PIA transported 508,453 passengers in March 2016 compared to 414,392 passengers in March last year, registering a growth of 23 percent.
The meeting was informed that the PIA Board of Directors had approved the New Lean Organisation Structure for the airline. It was said that the Central Reservation Control (CRC) had been shifted from Karachi to Islamabad with fully automated systems to curb inventory abuse.
Earlier, Punjab Minister for Labour and Human Resource Raja Ashfaq Sarwar called on the prime minister at Prime Minister’s House.
Talking to the labour minister, the prime minister said the government believed in dignity of labour and understood that only a prosperous workforce could help Pakistan compete in the global market.
Matters relating to human resource development and development work in parts of Punjab came under discussion at the meeting.
