ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday said that the party was standing by its decision to boycott the joint session of parliament – to be addressed by Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan – to be held this week
Speaking to media in the federal capital, Imran said that his party would not attend a Parliament session headed by a ‘corrupt’ prime minister. He said that the party does not endorse a prime minister who broke the country’s law on multiple occasions and is engaged in corruption.
On Turkish Ambassador Sadik Babur Girgin’s request, the PTI leadership said that the party may review its boycott decision. But Imran Khan has made it clear that the party will not attend the session. Imran welcomed the Turkish president to Pakistan but at the same time added that keeping in mind how the party workers were treated, it was impossible for PTI to go to the Parliament.
The government plans to hold a special joint sitting of parliament on Nov 17 that will be addressed by the Turkish president.
Criticising Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Imran said that to cover up its corruption the government changed its position several times in the recent months. The government was only deceiving to hide its previous deceptions. He added by saying that the Supreme Court (SC) would uncover the government’s lies.
On the Panama leaks issue, the PTI chairman said that he trusts the court and would accept however it decides to proceed on the matter.
